Couples Therapy

Kathleen has more than 15 years of expertise and has honed the necessary skills to help couples experience connectedness, fairness, and conflict resolution within families. Kathleen is a certified mediator and graduated from Friends University with a Master of Science in Family Therapy. Kathleen completed a year-long post-graduate program in Bowen Family Systems. This framework explores the problems with emotional impairment in self–regulation and the theory of differentiation and connectedness in a relationship.  Kathleen also uses Gottman techniques and models within therapy. A Contextual framework is also helpful, which not only looks at the function of dialogue between two individuals but also at the condition of their existence. Contextual therapy can be grouped with other theories that also emphasize understanding the family through an intergenerational and trauma framework. Emotion Focus Therapy may also be used so that the couple can explore their habits of connection and the cause of the maladaptive behaviors.
